Something's Coming!

Have you seen signs around your local library saying "Geek is Coming?" Are you completely mystified? We hope so! Now that you know what "geek" means, let me shed a little light on the situation.

"Geek the Library" is a public awareness campaign sponsored by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and run by the OCLC (Online Computer Library Center). And on Wednesday, October 3rd, 2012, your local library is throwing a little "Geek" party to tell you about all of the fun coming your way! Stay tuned for specific times, but that will be a day devoted to introducing the "Geek" campaign with a lot of fun activities and some freebies!

We're about to paint the town black and red, so don't miss out on your chance to find out more. And spread the word. So has anyone decided what they geek yet? Tell us below in the comments! And add this blog to your "favorites" to keep up-to-date on all things "geek" coming to your community.

Geek, Re-defined

What comes to mind when you hear the word: "geek?"
Do you see yourself as you were in high school, sporting the giant black-and-taped glasses, high-water jeans and trusty protractor always by your side? Or do you think of kids with blue hair, always talking about anime? Math-letes? Band kids? Super-spellers?

Whatever it is that defines the word for you, think again. "Geek" is about to get a whole lot cooler. Here in the 21st century, "geek" has become a verb.

GeekVerb:
 1. To love, to enjoy, to celebrate, to have an intense passion for.
  2. To express interest in.
  3. To possess a large amount of knowledge in.
  4. To promote.

Whatever it is that drives you, here at the library, we'll help you "geek" it. Check out books, look it up online, we've got the tools to help you learn about what you "geek."
